Who is YWAM Charlotte? YWAM Charlotte is committed to: knowing God, making Him known, glorifying the Lord Jesus in all things, and to making the Word of God central in all our training by relying on the guidance of Holy Spirit. We are dedicated to living our lives to be a blessing to the Lord, each other, and the community we live in. We are called to walk out in excellence in all we do, realizing that what we do are acts of worship to the Lord. We are committed to work in unity with all churches and other missions agencies for the task of world evangelism. We are passionately dedicated to encourage all of our staff and students to grow towards their God given destines and in their commitment to Christ! We are constantly in a live-learn environment. Our training schools are just a part of the training and equipping opportunities available here. In addition, we have regular gatherings and conferences with our great YWAM family, staff enrichment and one on one mentoring opportunities.
We are called to know God and make Him known!
As we go into all the world, we are working alongside the local church and, wherever possible, the local YWAM base in these areas. YWAM Charlotte has sent teams to countries like Bulgaria, Turkey, Costa Rica, Ghana, Italy, Slovenia, St. Croix, Norway, Ethiopia, Sweden, Trinidad & Tobago, China, Cuba, Scotland, Mexico, Cambodia, Thailand, Panama, Kenya and India. Currently our focus nations are India, Thailand and Cambodia.
It all started in 1987. Someone asked Todd Hedgepeth what he wanted to do for the Lord... no limits. He started to share from his heart a desire to start a base in North Carolina... tapping into the potential of the young people he had worked with at Camp Lurecrest. He had a desire to take them into all the world with the Good News of Jesus Christ, knowing that they could impact nations. After working with Nick Savoca in New York for three years, and leading a DTS in Atlanta, Todd and Vickie moved to North Carolina to being YWAM Charlotte. They began out of Camp Lurecrest. The YWAM staff served Camp Lurecrest in the summers and then hosted schools, at the camp, in the fall. As winter closed in, the team would move into Charlotte, preparing for outreach. When the spring thaw came, it was back up to the camp to start another season of camping and schools.
Through the whole process, the team was seeking the Lord as to a permanent facility in Charlotte. In different times of intercession, the Lord showed us a big white house with green shutters. At a staff conference in 1996, the Lord spoke to our team to cancel our fall schools and attend a School of Intercession, Worship, and Spiritual Warfare together. It was here, in Restenas, Sweden, that the Lord spoke to us to remember the things of old, those things He had revealed to us during out times of intercession. The white house came into focus again, and eventually became ours (as seen above)!
YWAM Charlotte is an official missionary training facility of YWAM International and a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
